Activity Description

Duration: 4-5 hours (min 12 years and above)

Our grade 3 option offers a milder Nile than our full on gung-ho grade 5 rafting. Many guests use this option to build their experience and confidence before rafting grade 5 on the second day.

This is a fun trip, running alongside Grade 5 rapids, all the thrills but none of the spills.

Enjoy snacks mid stream on the Nile with lunch at Adrift Overland Camp.

Grade 3 Rafting FAQ's

What should I wear?

Full Piece bathing suits.

Light clothing, shorts and a rash vest would be ideal, but if not consider a long sleeve t-shirt as the sun on the river can be fierce.

Sun hat or cap (optional).

What should I bring?

We recommend you take a small bag with a towel and a change of clothes for the end of the day, this will be kept on our vehicle and meet you at the finish point.

Other items: Any medication you require and money for any optional extras.

Can I bring my camera?

We strongly recommend you leave your camera, jewellery and any valuables at home.

What if the weather conditions are not ideal?

We operate under all weather conditions.
It is summer all year round in Uganda. The country straddles the equator which means there is no winter and no summer months and you can come at any time of the year. Temperatures in most parts of the country vary between 25’C and 30’C (77’F and 86’F) dropping only by 5’C overnight. Traditionally May and November are the wetter months in the country where morning cloud build-ups are followed by torrential rain and spectacular thunder and lightning shows.

Is there an age limit?

We can take kids younger than 12 under the following conditions:

They must fit into an adult life jacket | They are aware that there is a compulsory walk around two rapids | They will do a Grade 3 trip, where they either run in the safety raft or in a paddle boat that will run the rapids, but do conservative lines | All children will be vetted by the Trip Leader or Ops Manager on the morning of the trip to make sure they know what they are in for. This is still a really fun trip, as they run alongside the Grade 5 trip and enjoy all the action, but for Adrift safety is of paramount importance to us and the youngsters are not an exception to this.
